Art Walks | ZURICH ART WALK
Zurich Art Walk 'By the way. Exhibitions in the former industrial area of Zurich' with Janus Boege. MEETING POINT: Häusler Contemporary, Stampfenbachstrasse 59, 8006 Zurich ROUTE: Häusler Contemporary → OnCurating Project Space → Galerie Mark Mueller → Migros Museum → VOLUMES The four very different spaces Häusler Contemporary, OnCurating Project Space, Galerie Mark Mueller and Migros Museum at Löwenbräukunst, as well as Mini- VOLUMES Fair are located near the Limmat River and Sihl River. Their geographical proximity is a result of the adjacent districts of Kreis 5 and Kreis 6. But what kind of neighbourhoods are Unterstrass, the university district, and the Industriequartier? What takes place here before and after the Art Weekend and, above all, what is the historical context of these neighbourhoods? What kind of people live, work, and shape their city here? What are and were the political connections, and where does the daily struggle for interpretative power manifest? Janus establishes content connections between (urban) history and exhibitions at the Zurich Art Weekend, and with the participants of his Art Walks, he develops a context for the historically charged Industriequartier district you will primarily be exploring. In doing so, the participants will depart from the direct paths between the four venues to gain a better understanding of the area. Janus Boege is a cultural mediator and curator with background in fine arts. He lives and works in Singen, Germany and Zurich. In addition to conducting creative workshops and guided tours, he works as a chef in Zurich. In his role as a mediator and curator, the examination of structural exclusion and exploitation mechanisms forms the basis of his work.

Art Walks | ZURICH ART WALK
Zurich Art Walk 'Mind Map' with Valerie Keusch. MEETING POINT: In front of the left entrance to Löwenbräukunst, Limmatstrasse, Zürich, Switzerland ROUTE: Löwenbräukunst / Annex 14 → Last Tango → Escherwyss-Platz → Galerie Peter Kilchmann (Zahnradstrasse) Individual access to works of art, to architecture, begins in the first seconds of our perception. We automatically link what we see, smell, sense, hear, and taste with memories and experiences from our previous lives. Thus, in an extremely short time, a process of meaningful interpretation begins. During the Art Walk Valerie wants to make and give participants content and personal associations between the buildings, the history and the exhibitions that the group visits. The visitors are also invited to bring in their own associations during the Art Walk and to participate actively. The Art Walk starts at the Löwenbräu area. The history of the area - former beer brewery - creates a connection to the exhibited works of Struan Teague in the gallery Annex 14, which the group will visit afterwards. With the simple language of form, the simple materials of Struan Teague‘s art in mind, we continue to the Zurich off-space Last Tango - passing a former tobacco factory, where Gil Pellaton, similar to Struan Teague, uses simple and often organic materials (association Löwenbräu, tobacco factory) in his objects and installations. Their effect unfolds not only visually, but also through specific smells and their haptics. After that, the group continues via Escherwyssplatz to the gallery of Peter Kilchmann. At Escherwyssplatz Valerie briefly focuses on the project “Nagelhaus” and the work of art “Tower” of Los Carpinteros, which stands in place of the Nagelhaus now at the Escherwyssplatz and takes up the history of the Quratier ”former industrial quarter”. The Art Walk concludes in the Gallery Peter Kilchmann, where the participants explore the exhibition of Paul Mpagi Sepuya and João Modé. Valerie Keusch is a scenographer, interior designer, culture and art mediator. “Art is attitude” - this statement has accompanied her since her first steps as a scenographer. As she says: “So much is influenced by the things we see and experience every day. I think it‘s important to have your own opinion and to communicate to people the values you believe in”. She is currently working as an interior designer/scenographer in an architecture studio in Aarau and as an art and culture mediator in the Strohmuseum in Wohlen and Kunsthaus Zofingen. Valerie is also doing a Master in Curatorial Studies (curation, art and culture mediation) at the Zurich University of the Arts.

Cabaret Voltaire | PERFORMING KYIV | PART II - Performance 'Lustration/Ablution' by Maria Kulikovska
Kyiv Art Week presents performance 'Lustration/Ablution' by Maria Kulikovska as a part of Performing Kyiv project. The beginning of the Russian war against Ukraine in 2014 and the annexation of Crimea deeply affected Ukrainian society, including the artist Maria Kulikovska. The artist started to look for ways to cope with the radical violence and injustice. During her performance, Maria Kulikovska is bathing with her sculpture clone, cast from ballistic soap. Manufacturers use this soap to test the weapon, as its density is similar to the human's body. In this ritual, the artist lustrates herself. Hoping to heal the trauma through care, Maria says: — 'I wash my face with my own hands, I brush my hair, I peel off my soap skin, I wipe myself and scrub'. Maria Kulikovska is a celebrated Ukrainian artist, actionist-performer and researcher, working internationally. Maria was born in Kerch, Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine. After the annexation of Crimea by Russia, the artist lived and worked in exile in Kyiv, Donetsk, Malmo, Liverpool, London, Munich and Stockholm. At the end of 2019, Maria Kulikovska and Uleg Vinnichenko created the international non-binary art space GARAGE 33 in Kyiv.

Screening of 'DURCHS HÖLLENTOR INS PARADIES' with Bice Curiger (Director Fondation Vincent van Gogh and former curator Kunsthaus Zürich). 'DURCHS HÖLLENTOR INS PARADIES' tells the story of the Kunsthaus Zürich, from its opening in 1910 to the present day. Countless exciting, sometimes dramatic, sometimes amusing and bizarre episodes mark the history of the Kunsthaus. Among them are public disputes, such as the debate about the Emil G. Bührle Collection. Legendary exhibitions have contributed to the museum's international reputation, including the world's first museum exhibition of Picasso in 1932. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

Art Walks | ZURICH ART WALK
Zurich Art Walk 'Window Stopping' with Olga Popova. MEETING POINT: Kulturfolger, Idastrasse, Zürich, Switzerland. ROUTE: Kulturfolger → BosqueRreal → Verein by Association → Jevouspropose → Sputo The participants will be exploring off-spaces which, as a genre, have a very explicit presence in the city of Zurich. The curator will be focusing on spaces that have a direct connection to the surrounding environment through windows, that look out (or in) to the streets. The main focus of the walk would be on the curatorial approaches of these alternative spaces and how they reflect on the possibility of the audience to view the work without even entering the space. As a group, the participants will reflect on the framing that windows give to everyday and art spaces, think about viewing on the way, perceiving art in a bigger (not only) urban context, slowing down that initial approach to artistic work, connecting (or distancing, or something else) on our expectations of experiencing art. Olga Popova studied fine art and photography in Moscow, now she studies Curatorial Studies at Zurich University of the Arts. Her interests include thresholds of the moving image, in-between spaces and states, border and division logics. In her recent practice she looks into artistic interventions in spaces not dedicated to art and curatorial practices in broader contexts.

Zurich Art Walk 'By the way. Exhibitions in the former industrial area of Zurich' with Janus Boege. MEETING POINT: Häusler Contemporary, Stampfenbachstrasse 59, 8006 Zurich ROUTE: Häusler Contemporary → OnCurating Project Space → Galerie Mark Mueller → Migros Museum The four very different spaces Häusler Contemporary, OnCurating Project Space, Galerie Mark Mueller and Migros Museum at Löwenbräu Areal are located near the Limmat River and Sihl River.

Zurich Art Walk 'Roots of the Subconscious' with Miroslava Tyrina. Collegium Helveticum | Artist Rohini Devasher in conversation with historian of science Omar W. Nasim
With the AI+Art Conversations we encourage the dialogue between art and science, by bringing artists and scientists, as well as curators, engineers, critical thinkers and more together to exchange their ideas, practices and works. This might change not only the mindsets of the conversation partners, but also of the audience. Artistic interest and work in the fields of science and technology, has been ongoing for decades. Lately, these attempts have generated a lot of attention and turned art into a topic of high interest in science and technology research, as well as development thanks to AI affecting all of human society.

Collegium Helveticum | Walk with artist Rohini Devasher
Shadow Walkers by artist Rohini Devasher is a collective experience of lying down together gazing up at the sky, mimicking the act of amateur astronomers world over, and like them linked by common experience, in this case of the audio files, of the experience of this ‘collective rest or sleep’. How does one create a sense of engagement with someone else’s experiences? Is it possible to be an active participant once a work is complete? As an amateur astronomer herself, Devasher is keen to explore the dual role of the artist as both ‘participant’ and ‘observer’. Shadow Walkers is one vignette within this project. The vignette is played on MP3 players arranged in any open space under the sky. Mats provide a surface for people to lie under the sky / stars and listen to the piece. There is an intimacy to the experience. * bring your own smartphone and headphones, and a mat to lie on.
